      A Little Princess. . . . .This year's Cappies contest entry!

A privileged, free-spirited young girl, Sara Crewe, who has spent her whole life in India with her father, now must try to adapt to life in a strict boarding school in this charming, critically acclaimed children's fantasy.

The story's setting shifts to World War I where ten year old, Sara, has been left in a respected New York City boarding school while her British father heads overseas to fight. Filled with wild stories and a playful attitude, the unconventional Sara becomes popular amongst her classmates, but quickly comes into conflict with the harsh headmistress, Miss Minchin, who attempts to quash the child's individuality.

It only gets worse for poor Sara when a distressing event unfolds to leave her impoverished and at the mercy of the jealous Miss Minchin. Sara undergoes numerous trials as she humbly allows herself to be subjected to servitude, but with the help of several dear friends (both seen and unseen), she remains as proud and unwavering and imaginative as ever, proving to all that she is, as the title says, "a little princess".

Much Ado About Nothing

This is a comedy about two pairs of lovers, Benedick and Beatrice, and Claudio and Hero.

Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a "merry war"; they both talk a mile a minute and proclaim their scorn for love, marriage, and each other. In contrast, Claudio and Hero are sweet young people who are rendered practically speechless by their love for one another. By means of "noting" (which sounds the same as "nothing," and which is gossip, rumour, and overhearing), Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejecting Hero at the altar. Watch as the evil trickery of the villain, Don John, is discovered!

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a musical with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and a book by Linda Woolverton, based on the 1991 Disney film of the same name.

After a handsome but conceited prince treats a beggar woman poorly, the woman turns out to be a beautiful enchantress and turns the prince into a beast. Further, the prince's staff is all transformed into objects to do with their profession. The prince is given a magical mirror to view the outside world. To break the spell, he needs to learn to love a person for who they are, and get her to love him before a magical rose loses its petals. Meanwhile in a nearby village, a beautiful young bookworm (Belle) feels lonely and out of place. She lives with her eccentric but kind father, Maurice. Soon, Maurice goes off to compete at an inventors' fair but gets lost in the woods and ends up a prisoner at the beast's castle.

Belle eventually finds the castle and makes a deal with the beast to let her father go in return for her staying there with the beast. As the beast's inner kindness slowly reveals itself, Belle grows to be in love with him. However, a jilted, self-centered and overly-masculine suitor from Belle's village, Gaston, takes a posse to 'save' her from the beast. Gaston ends up stabbing the beast. Luckily, when Belle rushes to the beast and expresses her love for him, he comes back to life again as a handsome prince.

The Yellow Boat. . . . .Our Cappies contest entry!

Click to read the reviews from the Cappies critics.

The Yellow Boat is based on the incredible true story of Benjamin Saar, son of David and Sonja Saar. Benjamin was born with congenital hemophilia, and died in 1987 at the age of eight of AIDS related complications. The story of the Yellow Boat is not one of defeat and sorrow, but one of hope and joy in the face of adversity.

A Scandinavian folksong tells of three little boats: "One was blue, one was red, and one was yellow as the sun. They sailed far out to sea. The blue one returned to the harbor. The red one sailed home too. But the yellow boat sailed up to the sun." The play is a journey through Benjamin’s life, who, throughout the play, shows a skill for art. He turns all of his pain and suffering into vivid colors. The show is not only very moving, but also contains a powerful message from which we can all learn.

You Can't Take It With You

At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before you realize that if they are mad, then the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. Tony, the attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore house on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Kirby, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores find it hard to understand Alice's view. Tony knows the Sycamores live the right way with love and care for each other, while his own family is the one that's crazy. In the end, Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores after he happens in during a visit by the ex-Grand Duchess of Russia, Olga Katrina, who is currently earning her living as a waitress.
